Learn a fun and innovative way to take notes and retain information better!
PRACTICE:
After being introduced to what sketch notes are, we did a practice note taking exercise with the prompts on the board. Some of the prompts were: our name, favorite music genre, our greatest accomplishment, and what we do on the weekends.
This exercise allowed me to learn different ways to show the information as well as get more creative/comfortable drawing symbols for each question.
WHY READ MACBETH:
After doing the practice sketch notes exercise, we watched a video entitled, "Why Read Macbeth", and used our practice to take sketch notes on the video.
I really enjoyed taking sketch notes instead of using just words, especially since I got to make the paper colorful! I think it is easier to remember the information presented in the video through sketch notes because there is a visual aspect that connects to a part in the video. For example, I drew the globe theatre in the bottom right hand corner of the paper to show where the play was shown and how Shakespeare needed to write plays that appealed to both the poor and rich. I even wrote "ABE" to resemble how it cost one penny for a floor spot. I also used techniques from the first activity we did like the step by step. I told the story of how Macbeth stole the throne, caused terror in the city, then ended up dead (bloody). I know I can improve on the way I take sketch notes, like by making it more organized or improving on my spelling/symbols. I hope in the future we can do more sketch note exercises like this one!
