BANQUO PALETTE:
The colors in the palette (from left to right) are named: Clouded Mystery, Solemn Ghost, Autumn Sunflower, and Infinite Heart.
The first color is a deep purplish fray. I chose this color because it reminds me of mystery and gloom. In the play, Banquo was suspicious of Macbeth. Since it was prophesied for his children to become King, Macbeth wanted to kill him. It was never revealed how Banquo really felt about everything, but the scenes he was apart of were always gloomy. I named it clouded mystery because of how mysterious Banquo was and how Macbeth's clouded judgement led to his murder. The second color is a deep blue with a gray tint. I chose this color because blue reminds me of sadness. In addition, when I think of a ghost, I always think of night time as well as a glowing blue figure. In the play, Banquo came back as a ghost in Macbeth's mind. His murder was very sorrowful, especially since Banquo was a good guy. I chose the name solemn ghost because of that particular scene when Macbeth sees the ghost of Banquo. The third color, is an orangish yellow. I chose this color because I feel like Banquo could have been such a positive and beloved character if he was not murdered. Yellow is a bright and happy color, which Banquo is in comparison to the other characters in Macbeth. I chose the name Autumn sunflower because sunflowers are happy, but at the same time, autumn is is when leaves fall off the trees (resembles Banquo's fall/death). The last color is pink. I chose this color because pink is the color of brains and heart. In the play, Banquo was cautious around the witches, showing how smart he is. In addition, he actually cared about the well-being of others, meaning he had a big heart. I chose the name infinite heart because even though Banquo died, his heart and soul will live on forever.
DUNCAN PALETTE:
The colors in the palette (from left to right) are named: Bright Sun, Betrayal, Sound Sleep, and The Last Tear.
The first color is a bright yellow. I chose this color because yellow represents happiness and a bright personality. In the play, Duncan was a beloved King. His personality was bright and even though Macbeth killed him, he was indecisive about it. This shows how the entire kingdom loved King Duncan and appreciated him. I chose the name bright sun because King Duncan was the person who brought light to the kingdom and made people feel happy and safe. The second color is a bright red. I chose this color because it is the color of blood. In the play, King Duncan was brutally murdered by Macbeth. He was stabbed with a dagger so many times that his blood was everywhere. I chose the name betrayal because this bright red color is powerful and stands out just like when Macbeth betrayed him. The third color is a purplish lavender. I chose this color because i think it is soothing and peaceful. This resembles how King Duncan was feeling in the play when he was at Macbeth's castle. Up until his murder, Duncan trusted Macbeth and was enjoying the celebration. I chose the name sound sleep because that is what Duncan had moments before he was killed. He was sleeping soundly in the castle without a peep being heard. The last color is a mint green with a hint of gray. I chose this color because it sort of represents sadness and solemn, but at the same time is spooky. In the play, King Duncan was betrayed by his Thane of Cawdor. Since he was loved by everyone, his death brought sadness and somber over the entire kingdom. I chose the name the last tear because of how sad his death was and because people in the kingdom probably shed tears.
MACBETH SEES BANQUO’S GHOST PALETTE:
The colors in the palette (from left to right) are named: Somber Hour, Family Tree, A Guilty Conscience, and An Improbable Cause.
The first color is a dark blue. I chose this color because blue reminds me of both sadness and night time. In the play, when Macbeth saw Banquo's ghost, a sort of scary and sad mood was set over the scene. In addition, it occurred at night when it was a bit spooky. I chose the name somber hour because of how sad the scene was and because it resembles the names of parties (cocktail hour). This is just like the party Macbeth was hosting for his new reign as the King. The second color is a foresty green. I chose this color because it represents nature. Banquo was killed in the woods because the three witches prophesied his children would eventually become the King. This brings me to the reason why I chose the name family tree. I chose this name because of how worried Macbeth was. His ambition got the best of him and influenced to kill Banquo (and his son) to prevent someone in his family tree from becoming King. The third color is a brownish mustard yellow. I chose this color because it is a dirty and sort of earthy. I chose the name guilty conscience because in this scene, Macbeth saw Banquo's ghost because of the remorse he felt. Since he was guilty, you could tell that his actions were dirty. The last color is a light brown. I chose this color because like the third color, it represents dirtiness. I named the color an improbable cause because Macbeth was guilty for killing Banquo for the wrong reasons. He killed Banquo based off of what the witches said, meaning it was mean and dirty.
THE LAST FIGHT (MACBETH VS. MACDUFF) PALETTE:
The colors in the palette (from left to right) are named: Vengeful Head, Tomorrow, Something Blue, and The Dirty Player.
The first color is a bright red. I chose this color because red represents blood and fighting. This scene was a brutal battle between Macbeth and Macduff, ending with Macbeth's head on a stick. I named this color vengeful head because Macduff was getting revenge for the murder of his wife and son. For this reason, Macduff chopped off Macbeth's head and put it on a stick. The second color is a bright yellow. I chose this color because I think it captures a new beginning. With the end of the reign of Macbeth, Malcom can now lead the kingdom to success. I named this color tomorrow because it shows that tomorrow is a new day, and is filled with new beginnings and experiences. Tomorrow will be bright because the new kingdom can be filled with happiness and sunshine. The third color is a soft blue with a gray tint. I chose this color because of what I wanted to name it. I named it something blue because in weddings, people say "something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue." Weddings are happy and represent new beginnings, just like how Malcom's new reign as King is a new beginning. The last color I chose is a yellowish brown. I chose this color because it is the color of dirt. Macbeth's personality was dirty because he stepped on everyone is his path on the way to be King. Without caring about whoever he hurts, Macbeth got what was coming at him. Macduff basically proved how dirty of a player Macbeth was because he appeared all nice and innocent on the outside, but on the inside he was a horrible person.
MACBETH PLAY AS A WHOLE PALETTE:
The colors in the palette (from left to right) are named: Fire and Fury, Rotten Smile, A King’s Quest, and Meaning of Life.
The first color is a deep red. I chose this color because red is the color of anger and rage. In the play, there were a lot of feuds between characters. Most of these feuds ended in either an explosion of anger or a bloody death. For example, both Duncan and Banquo were murdered, leading to the killing of Macbeth. I chose the name fire and fury because those are two words used to describe feelings in a fight between people. Since the play had so many, it only makes sense for characters to explode in a fury. The second color is a mustard yellow. I chose this color because it reminds me of something dirty or rotten. In the play, Macbeth was rotten because he let his vaulting ambition get the better of him. He stepped on whoever was in his way, not caring about who he hurt because all he wanted was to benefit himself. I chose the name rotten smile because not only did they all have bad dental hygiene, but behind Macbeth's smile, he was a dirty murderer. He was able to cover up for a period of time how bad of a person he was. The third color is a deep purple. I chose this color because it reminds me of how sophisticated and intense the play was. Unlike other Shakespearean plays, this one was filled with the journeys each character went on and what the consequences of their actions were. I chose the name a king's quest because the play essentially follows Macbeth's journey and his journey involved a rise than a great fall into nothing. The last color is a dark teal. I chose this color because it is kind of earthy, yet at the same time soothing. It reminds me of the setting of Macbeth and the mood everything was in. I chose the name meaning of life because Macbeth wanted to give up after hearing about Lady Macbeth's suicide. Finding his meaning was no longer a thing and for other characters, killing Macbeth was their reason.
