Compare and contrast Macbeth to a "Modern Macbeth" person!
JOURNAL ENTRY 4/17/19:
Similarities - Both Donald Trump and Macbeth started out as wealthy and successful civilians. Neither had outside experience being the ruler of a town or country, but that was no challenge for either of them. Each of them had to overcome adversities along their way to power, but their vaulting ambition is what ultimately allowed them to take rule. Donald Trump had to overcome sex assault scandals while Macbeth had to kill Duncan, the reigning King. Even after taking office, Donald Trump was faced with scandals of Russia rigging the election in his favor as well as many protests against him winning. This is similar to how Macbeth was faced with people's suspicions of him being guilty for the murder. Finally, both Donald Trump and Macbeth have cause harm to the civilians in their town or country. Donald Trump has created bans on immigration from certain countries and wants to build a wall to keep people from coming in (they are innocent). He also discriminates against minorities and tries to pass laws that ban women from choosing what they want to do with their own bodies. Macbeth on the other hand, killed Banquo and Macduff's family. He left Macduff and many other civilians in his town to mourn the loss of four people. The decisions Macbeth made were at the expense of everyone else and only for the benefit of himself.
Differences - Unlike Macbeth, Donald Trump has not killed anyone. Although there are scandals against him and he is accused of hurting women, he did not kill anyone. I think sexual assault is just as bad as murder because the victim of sexual assault must live with that in the back of his/her mind for their entire life. In addition, the witches prophesied that Macbeth was going to be King. He did work for that position by killing Duncan, but Donald Trump had to work and essentially earn his position as President of the United States. He had to compete against other candidates and that means there was a possibility he would not be president. In fact, the Presidential race was pretty close. Finally, Macbeth's decisions led to his demise. Due to what he thought and did, the civilians were able to oppose and ultimately killed him. Although, there were protesters fighting against Donald Trump's candidacy, there has not been anyone to rise and impeach him. He is still the President of the United States and although his service is controversial, his demise has not come yet.
